Medication errors during pregnancy can have devastating impacts

Pregnant women must be extra careful about what they ingest. This includes what medications they take. When a pregnant woman seeks medical care, her doctors must ensure that they aren't instructing her to take medications that can harm the baby or affect her pregnancy. Unfortunately, not all doctors take the proper precautions to ensure that the woman is only taking medications that are safe for use during pregnancy. We are here to help women who were given unsafe drugs during pregnancy to seek compensation for the harm occurred to her or her baby.

The baby depends on nutrients from the placenta to survive and thrive before birth. Some medications can pass to the baby through the placenta. When those medications affect the baby in a negative manner, the baby can suffer harm that lasts a lifetime. Some medications can even cause fetal death or premature labor. That is why is it important for doctors to ensure that the medications they prescribe to pregnant women are safe for her and the baby.

There are several different types of medication errors that can affect a pregnant woman. A doctor might prescribe the wrong medication, a pharmacist might not fill the prescription properly, too high of a dosage might be ordered, incorrect medications might be administered, or a combination of medications might be prescribed that causes harm because of the mixture of medications.

In each of these cases, it would be necessary to determine exactly who is responsible for the medication error. This could be a doctor, pharmacist, or even a nurse. We can help you to determine who dropped the ball and how to handle the situation.
